Gandhi South African Reflections Tour : 9 nights / 10 days

Day 1

Arrive OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg with meet and greet by African link representative. Transfer to hotel. Evening at Leisure. Overnight Johannesburg.

Day 2

Take your first step of this majestic tour in Johannesburg. Pick up from hotel to commence. This journey starts with full day city tour of Johannesburg, visiting Mahatma Gandhi’s most significant locations in the city, Constitutional Hill, Gandhi Square, Sathyagraha House, Fordsburg and Tolstoy Farm. Lunch en-route. Return to hotel late afternoon. Dinner at hotel and Overnight.

Day 3

After breakfast, half Day Soweto Tour, home to Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, 2 Nobel prize winners. Afternoon Gold Reef City Tour. Gold Reef City is an amusement park in Johannesburg, South Africa located on an old gold mine which closed in 1971. Park is themed around 1886 Gold Rush on the Witwatersrand.

Day 4

After an early breakfast, depart from Johannesburg for Volksrust Mpumalanga and a 3-hour journey to the OLD PRISON in Volksrust, where Gandhi was incarcerated in 1913.

Lunch en-route. Depart Volksrust after lunch and head to Ladysmith Kwazulu Natal Midlands. Late afternoon arrival in Ladysmith. Relax, unwind and enjoy dinner. Overnight Ladysmith.

Day 5

Explore the Battlefields were the Siege of Ladysmith occurred. Mohandas Gandhi was a stretcher bearer with General Buller's relief forces after the Siege of Ladysmith and trained some of the 1100 Indians in this dangerous task. After Lunch at the hotel, depart Ladysmith for Pietermaritzburg. On route, stop in Howick to view the Capture Site where Nelson Mandela was arrested and taken to prison for 27 years. Dinner and Overnight Pietermaritzburg.

Day 6

An early start today (08h30am), experience the rich history that Mahatma Gandhi created in this developing city. Visit Pietermaritzburg Railway Station, the Gandhi memorial in Church Street, City centre before proceeding to Project Gateway where Kastuba Gandhi was imprisoned for 1 night . After lunch, travel to Durban and Inanda heritage route and to visit the Phoenix Settlement. The house named Sarvodaya “Well Being for All” originally built, for Gandhi and his family when the Phoenix Settlement was established in 1904. Dinner and overnight in Durban.

Day 7

City Tour of Durban, introduce you to magical Durban, a multicultural City shaped by a complex collaborative history involving early colonial settlers, indigenous Zulu population and Indian community who arrived as indentured labourers in the 19th century. After lunch, travel to Durban King Shaka International Airport and board for Cape Town. After a warm Mother City meet and greet, transfer to hotel and overnight.

Day 8

City Tour, Table Mountain: Head up Table Mountain and experience the Mother City in all her vibrant glory, from the harbour to the markets and the colourful streets of the Bo Kaap. Robben Island tours in the afternoon: Robben Island needs no introduction with regards to significance of its place in South Africa’s and indeed the world’s history. As “home” to one of the world’s most famous prisoners, statesmen and leader’s in Nelson Mandela, Robben Island is quite possibly most well known island-prison on the planet. Overnight Cape Town.

Day 9

Full Day Peninsula Tour visiting Hout Bay, experience a boat trip to Seal Island, Indian and Atlantic Oceans on either side of Cape Point, and Boulders beach to see penguins . Evening at V&A Waterfront .

Day 10

Day free with airport transfer.
